ITINERARY: 3 DAY MOROCCO STUDENT TOUR FROM MARRAKECH TO MERZOUGA DESERT

DAY 1: MARRAKECH – HIGH ATLAS – AIT BENHADDOU – DADES VALLEY

On the first day of the 3 day Morocco student tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert, our driver will pick up your group early from your accommodation in Marrakech aboard a private air-conditioned vehicle. Soon the road begins to climb into the High Atlas, winding along the Tizi N’Tichka pass. We stop to admire the folded rock formations and the small Berber hamlets perched on the slopes.

By mid-morning, we reach Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage kasbah built entirely from clay and straw. Students wander its narrow lanes with our guide and discover how this pre-Saharan architecture kept buildings cool without any modern materials. We then continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs toward the Dades Valley, where we spend the night in a traditional hotel or kasbah surrounded by canyon walls sculpted by wind and time. Dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 2: DADES VALLEY – TODRA GORGES – MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast with a view over the valley, we head to the Todra Gorges, where sheer limestone cliffs rise nearly 300 meters above a narrow riverbed. It is a natural classroom on erosion, carved over thousands of years. Your group walks the canyon floor, chats with local farmers, and explores the irrigation channels that have kept this oasis fertile for generations.

In the afternoon, the rocky landscape gives way to the open sand seas of Merzouga. At the edge of Erg Chebbi, students climb onto their camels for a sunset trek across the dunes and arrive at a secure desert camp as the sky turns orange. Enjoy an hour of ATV quad driving, then a dinner followed by traditional Berber music around the campfire, under a sky made for stargazing. Overnight in a Sahara desert camp.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA – DRAA VALLEY – MARRAKECH

Wake up before dawn to watch the sunrise break over the dunes, one of the most photographed moments of the whole trip. After breakfast at the camp, a short group talk covers desertification and the challenges facing Morocco’s nomadic communities today.

Then we begin the long drive back through the Draa Valley, a green corridor of date palms cutting through dark volcanic hills. We make stops along the way for photos, conversation, and lunch. Crossing the Atlas range once more, we arrive in Marrakech by evening, where the 3 day Morocco student tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert concludes with a drop-off at Marrakech Airport or your group’s chosen location.
